THE AREA

During a stay at The Mansion guests can enjoy the property, the beautiful sunsets, and the serene lake views. But for those who wish to explore the area, there is a variety of activities to suit everyone. The majestic Finger Lakes region provides endless activities for all interests, from water sports to hiking and bicycling to touring the many local wineries.

Winery Tours

Vineyards thrive in the microclimate and glacially deposited soil created by the lakes, and winery tours are one of the most popular tourist activities. The Mansion’s neighbors are on the Keuka Wine Trail, many of whose members are winners of acclaimed wine-tasting awards. Visitors can also follow the Seneca Wine Trail located 20 minutes from The Mansion, which includes 31 member wineries. Reservations are often required, and some have a tasting fee. Keuka Lake Winery Bus Tours are also available.

Outdoor Adventures

Visitors can hike, bike, snowmobile, or cross-country ski on seven miles of woodland called the Keuka Outlet. Created nearly 10,000 years ago between Keuka and Seneca Lakes, the Outlet stretches from Penn Yan to Dresden, NY. Watkins Glen State Park is another renowned hiking destination, with 19 waterfalls and many picturesque trails. Hiking is also available at Keuka Lake State Park and Eggleston Glen Falls.

The Finger Lakes region is known for water sports and Keuka Lake boasts many rental companies for boats, pontoons, Jet Skis, paddleboards, and kayak rentals. A boat launch is available a short distance from The Mansion at Keuka Lake State Park.

Fishing and Golf

Fishing – Local rivers and lakes provide a variety of fish including walleye, pike, brook trout, salmon, and steelhead. Many local shops rent fishing equipment.

Golf – Two golf courses, Lakeside Country Club and Arrowhead Creek on Waneta Lake, are within easy driving distance of The Mansion and welcome all golfers.

Entertainment and Attractions

The CMAC Arts Center in Canandaigua attracts sold-out shows and top-notch musical performers; the venue also accommodates musical theater, modern dance, ballet, and children’s activities, in addition to being the summer home of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Point of the Bluff Vineyards in Hammondsport also hosts musical performers. A little more than a half hour away, Watkins Glen International is an automobile racetrack best known for NASCAR races in the summer months.

The Corning Museum of Glass, dedicated to the art, history, and science of glass, has more than 50,000 glass objects, some over 3,500 years old, many of incredible beauty. Located an hour from Keuka Lake, the Museum of Glass hosts more than 400,000 visitors per year. The museum is open year-round.

Penn Yan Day Trip

Penn Yan, a village at the northern tip of Keuka Lake, makes a perfect day trip. It has the fastest growing Amish and Mennonite population in the country. Amish vendors sell delicious baked goods and homemade wares, toys, furniture, and crafts, including unique quilts and baskets. Visitors are cautioned to drive carefully because of horse-drawn buggies on the local roads.

From antiques to outlets to farmers’ markets, Keuka Lake’s villages have a plethora of wares for every taste.
